Importance of Chiropractic Care
Dec 1, 2020
Good morning, everybody. I'm Dr. Aaron Seaton with the Chiropractic Place. We have a lot of patients who, for the first time get under chiropractic care, and they begin to experience these changes in their body, they see the change in whatever they came in for, say it was low back pain, neck pain, and they start to see improvements there, but most of our patients report back to us changes in their health that they did not expect.
A lot of our patients come back and say, "Doc, I was having this weird symptom down my leg that's starting to improve, what's that about?" "Doc, I haven't slept this good in years," or "my digestion is getting better." We hear this stuff all the time, and it's hard for those patients to relate to that, 'cause they think I came in for my low back and I want my low back to feel better I wasn't expecting all these other positive changes to take place, so I'd like to take a minute just to explain that to you guys and why chiropractic works so well at heightening our overall health and well-being. So what we're doing as chiropractors is we're, obviously, we're analyzing the spine, we're looking for what are called subluxations, these mis-alignments in the spine that are putting pressure on the nerve system, so what's the nerve system? That's our brain, our spinal cord, and all of the spinal nerves that exit out at every level, which control and coordinate everything your body does. So everything your body does is controlled through this system.
So that means when the heart beats, it's because the nerve told it to do that, when the lungs breathe, when your muscles move, all of that is regulated and controlled through the nerve system. So when chiropractors are making corrections to the subluxations in your spine, when they're putting motion back in here, getting this to align properly, what we're doing is we're taking pressure off of that nerve system so that the brain can send the signals to the body.
Now, they've done research on this, and there was a research out of the University of Colorado that showed that the weight of a dime, a dime sitting on a nerve could shut down signals 50% to 60%, so that's 50% to 60% of the signals that are trying to get out there, are unable to get out there if there's the pressure of a dime on a nerve. That's not a lot of pressure. So when we begin making adjustments, we're taking those nerves and we're putting them back at 100%, we want those signals to flow.
So what people begin to experience is better performance of their body, and that's why many patients continue to utilize chiropractic care after they've seen improvement because they want number one, their spine to be healthy, they wanna prevent future problems, and they want their nerve system in charge. If that makes sense to you or you have any more questions about this, give us a call, I'm Dr. Aaron Seaton with the Chiropractic Place.
