Good morning, everybody, this is Dr. Aaron Seaton with another video here from The Chiropractic Place in Redding. Today's video is on the importance of regular exercise, why we need to be getting that movement and what it does for our body. First thing it does, it decreases stress, our bodies, if we have a busy life, can be over-producing stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, it's important for us to do something with that, to burn that off, 'cause if we don't, then that cortisol and that adrenaline can increase our blood sugar, decrease the function of our immune system.

There's a number of negative effects, it's not that there's anything wrong with those stress hormones, it's that if you're in a pattern where they are always elevated and you're not getting exercise to counter balance that it can definitely affect you. So regular exercise will help you deal with the stress hormones and the effects of those stress hormones to keep your body balanced. Number two, improved heart health, exercising at least 30 minutes a day, we know has not just some small impact on heart health, a tremendous impact on heart health, and that is still the number one killer in our country, hundreds of thousands of people every day are dying... Every year are dying from this, in many cases, preventable problem, so regular exercise is vital for heart health, and that is a great thing for us when we age.

Increases probiotic population in your intestines, believe it or not, in your gut, your gut health is tied to exercise, a lot of people are like how does that help with probiotics? The reality is that the vast majority of the healthy bacteria in our gut are oxygen-loving bacteria, they love oxygen, and when we exercise, we are increasing blood flow, we are increasing the circulation of oxygen and nutrients throughout our body, and that has a side benefit in the gut, it helps bring oxygen and nutrients to that healthy bacteria and keep that healthy bacteria's populations up really high, that's not only important for gut health, we know that's important for our immune system, a lot of our immune function is in our gut health and actually 90% of our serotonin that we use in our brain to help us feel better, it prevents depression, 90% of serotonin is made in the gut, so if we improve gut health. We can also improve brain health in and our mood, so another great benefit to exercise.

Decrease pain. I see a lot of patients with headaches, back pain, neck pain, low back pain, sciatica pinched nerve types of problems, and a lot of that, once we get those patients, obviously, if it's acute pain that they're feeling this, we wanna get them feeling better, but the vast majority of my patients, I am recommending, once we get them out of that pain and get them feeling better, it is time that we start introducing regular exercise, strengthening the postural muscles, getting that spine moving, it's extremely healthy to help us decrease pain if we are exercising on a regular basis.

Improved sleep. A lot of people who have trouble sleeping start to notice changes in those sleep wake cycles when they are exercising, a lot of that has to do... People who tend to have trouble falling asleep, it might be a little issue with their melatonin levels, and there are other things we can recommend, no blue white after a certain time of day, really making sure you're not over-stimulating self at night, but there are a lot of patients who might be having some blood sugar issues and not really even realize that if you're having trouble with regulating your blood sugar, that can wake you up at night, you don't have...

Maybe you don't have trouble falling asleep, but you're waking up at night, perhaps you're also not dreaming, these are all signs that your blood sugar may be having some issues, and exercise we know can help stabilize our blood sugar by burning off stress hormones, which raise that blood sugar. So another effect from exercise, believe it or not, is to help regulate our sleep, we start noticing people sleeping better, staying asleep, and they start dreaming again, and that can be from the exercise also with some changes in diet. So hopefully this video convinces you that the need to get some regular exercise, you don't have to be an Olympic athlete, it's good to just mix things up, try to get in at least five days a week of 30 minutes or more, you will be amazed with how much better you feel. And for my patients, I tell them, regular exercise is vital, if we are gonna stabilize the subluxation in your spine, if we're gonna get your spine healthy and you wanna see me less over time, we have got to supplement your life with some regular exercise. I hope this video is helpful. Have any questions regarding this? Give us a call at the office.
