Why Chiropractic Care?
MAY 12, 2022
Hello everyone, Dr. Aaron Seaton with The Chiropractic Place is doing another video today. Today, I wanted to talk about why you even want to be receiving chiropractic care. There's a lot of cool, fascinating stuff out there. We get people coming in sometimes, obviously with headaches, low back pain, neck pain, and upper back pain. However, it's really cool if people can understand the underlying science behind what chiropractic promotes and what we can do for people to help boost their potential. So the first thing I like to review with my patients is letting them know that 90% of all receptors in the body... So all these little nerve receptors are everywhere in your body. 90% of those are movement receptors. So your brain gets... 90% of the information it gets from the body is based on movement and what the body is doing in relation to gravity.
Now 80% of that 90% are in your spine. So if your spine isn't moving correctly, it's not moving at 100%, and you are affecting a massive amount of information that flows to your brain. And your brain makes decisions about your health based on these receptors. And those decisions aren't just about your muscles and your joints. They're about your organs, heart, lungs, liver, and immune system. All of that information coming from these affects the information from the brain to everything else. So that's very important stuff to know. So while the spine has such a big impact on our overall health and well-being, well, here's some of the neuro-anatomy to help explain that.
And so, that leads us to the next question. When people think about chiropractic care, are they thinking of wellness or just pain relief? And we see a lot of people who do come in. They have headaches, neck pain, low back pain, whatever it is. But understanding this hopefully helps shift your consciousness to better understand why many people, especially in this office, are coming in regularly. And it's not just because they have symptoms. It's because they understand that their body performs better. They want to maximize their potential, and utilizing ongoing chiropractic care can help patients do that. I myself get checked at least once a week. For some patients, what makes sense is that they're in here once a month. But somewhere in that range is a very good range to keep your spine healthy. Because not everything that develops in the spine develops with symptoms. And if we're only thinking about symptoms when making health decisions, we're missing the boat entirely.
We know many things in the body form without symptoms at all. Lots of spinal arthritis, degenerative disc disease, cavities in your teeth, plaque in your arteries. We know a lot of these things form with no symptoms at all. So if we only make our decisions about our health relating to symptoms, we are not taking the best care of ourselves. So hopefully, understanding more about the science of chiropractic helps you make better decisions about maybe entertaining the idea of doing ongoing chiropractic care to maximize your potential, not just treat pain.
