Hello everyone. This is Dr. Aaron Seaton with The Chiropractic Place doing this week's video on chiropractic prevention or pain relief. This is definitely a subject that comes up a lot in our office. We have a lot of patients who come through here. A lot of people do get introduced to chiropractic with this concept in mind, that they only come in when they are hurting. And so what we do is we explain that and walk our patients through that. There's nothing wrong with coming in because you're suffering from neck pain or headaches, but we like to educate our patients along the way.

Yes, we want to see you get relief from whatever is bringing you to the office. If it's neck pain or headaches, or back pain, we want to help you and get that symptom under control, but we also want to make sure we're doing our job educating our patients about the preventative aspect of chiropractic care. And there's a lot of stuff that can happen in our spine that may not present with symptoms. You can have wear and tear arthritis in your spine for years before you start having real symptoms.

The same is true with other things with our health. We could have cancer in our body for a couple of years prior to ever having a symptom. So when we're thinking about our health, it's important not just to make decisions based on symptoms and pain because many things develop in the body before pain ever shows up. Nothing more true than your spine. So what we like to do here at the office is, when we're seeing our patients, is take some x-rays on their spine so that we can see what's going on and better explain to our patient, "Hey, this is what we're seeing on the x-rays, and this is what your spine needs before those things become a major issue."

So when you're going to the chiropractor, obviously that first step, let's get the pain under control, let's get you feeling better, but also, thinking about it from a preventative standpoint, going into the chiropractor consistently can prevent a lot of problems from developing down the road. So this is how we like to think of it, start with that understanding of where they are, and then help our patients understand where we should be with our chiropractic care. No different than our dental care, right?

We want to go to the dentist to prevent dental decay and problems with our teeth, not just to treat problems but to prevent them. Nothing could be further from the truth. And with chiropractic, look at it the same way we need to see it as a preventative measure, something we do more consistently. I'm Dr. Aaron Seaton with The Chiropractic Place.
